Heads down, the Sunday after-church shoppers were on some sort of mission from God or maybe the Devil: urgent, almost shoving people to get out of the way. The usual Texas politeness gave way completely–probably because of the damned heat they had to return to outside.
Frequently, I consider times and moods like these as opportunities for some group healing and “smoothing of feathers”. I admit to having some worries of my own* as I pushed my cart through the veggie aisle, and then remembered how much I enjoy this challenge. So I beamed.

When one tiptoes in the shadows of the unknown, always on high alert for danger, one is not in a state of receptivity. Discovery, wonder, gratitude–these states of being are not on the menu du jour. Fear, anxiety, resentment take over. When we uncovered our deepest fears and assumptions, we both saw that we had the same intentions for the journey, but we had to find a healthier way to deal withe stresses of such an open ended trip.

We decided to lighten with this intent: We are open to the gifts of the journey: places to stay and cook and connect and work and play. We are open to being at the right place at the right time. We are open to meeting whoever we need to. We are open.
